Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam
to the United States of America
NGUYEN QUOC DZUNG
Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Dzung was born in 1964 in Ha Noi. With more than 30 years working in the Foreign Service, he has held various positions and built up a wide range of experiences, especially in international integration, bilateral and multilateral diplomacy, international economic affairs, and human resources management and development.
He was appointed by President Nguyen Xuan Phuc as the seventh Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam to the United States of America in January 2022. He arrived in Washington, D.C. on February 16, 2022.
From 2016 to February 2022, Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Dzung served as Deputy Foreign Minister, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, SOM ASEAN Leader of Viet Nam.
From 2011 to 2016, Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Dzung held the position of Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs, Director General of Organization and Personnel Department and Director General of Economic Affairs Department.
From 2007 to 2011, Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Dzung was Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam to Hungary, accredited to Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Albania.
From 2005 to 2007, Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Dzung held several positions including Acting Director General of the Department of Organization and Personnel, Acting Director General then Director General of the APEC 2006 National Secretariat, and Director General of the Ministry Leader’s Advisory Group, MOFA.
From 2003 to 2005, Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Dzung served as Deputy Director General, Deputy Chief of the Ministry’s Cabinet, Secretary of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, MOFA.
From 2002 to 2003, Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Dzung was Deputy Director General of the Organization and Personnel Department, MOFA.
From 1999 to 2002, Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Dzung was Desk Officer, MOFA.
From 1996 to 1999, he was Attaché and then Third Secretary at the Embassy of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam in the Federal Republic of Germany.
From 1990 to 1996, Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Dzung was Desk Officer, Europe II Department (now Europe Department), MOFA.
Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Dzung graduated from the Institute for International Relations (now the Diplomatic Academy of Viet Nam) in 1986. He attended the “Russian Language Intensive Training Course” at Kiev University, Ukraine from 1986 – 1987 and obtained a Master in International Studies at Birmingham University, United Kingdom from 1993 – 1995. He is fluent in English. Other languages include Russian, French, and German (for general communication).
Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Dzung is married to Mme. Tran Thi Bich Van and has two children.
